Kaleem Caire is a fifth-generation Madisonian who grew up across from Penn Park on the South Side. He graduated from Madison West, served in the U.S. Navy as a submarine sonar technician, and earned his teaching degree at UW–Madison. As founding president of the Black Alliance for Educational Options, he commissioned the first comprehensive study of high school graduation rates in the United States, which helped change how every American high school counts its graduates. As president of the Urban League of Greater Madison, he expanded its job-training programs from serving 183 adults to more than 1,700, with graduates earning $17.2 million annually. In 2014, he founded One City Schools, where 95% of preschool graduates enter kindergarten ready. His vision: make Madison the best mid-size city for everyone to live, learn, work, and thrive. Kaleem Caire is a fifth-generation Madisonian, Navy veteran, and UW–Madison graduate. He led the Urban League of Greater Madison, where he expanded job training by nearly tenfold, and founded One City Schools. For 30 years, he has worked to help Madison’s children and families thrive. He is running for mayor.
